The goal of the AK STAR phlebotomy class is for every student to achieve national certification. To qualify, students must be 18 years or older, have a high school diploma or GED, and be CPR/First Aid certified.
The program lasts 9 weeks and involves 100 hours of clinical work. Students must perform 100 successful sticks on live persons.
Upon completing the training course, students will be eligible to take a nationally accredited written exam and also perform a practical exam.
Students who complete both the written national exam, the practical exam, and the required clinical hours will be qualified to work in the healthcare industry as nationally certified phlebotomy technicians.
