Alaska Career College (formerly Career Academy) offers a Phlebotomy Technician program that teaches students anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. The course covers all aspects of blood sample collection, as well as a minimum of 40 of the most common laboratory tests.
Students also learn why tests are ordered, how to handle abnormal results, pediatric collection, arterial blood gases, and the proper way to receive and transport specimens.
There is a classroom component as well as a modern laboratory setting. Students who complete this program will be qualified to sit for the national certification exam without having completed the 2-year work experience requirement.
When students pass the exam, they will be credentialed as Nationally Certified Phlebotomy Technicians (NCPT).
