Virginia College in Huntsville offers both an Associate of Science and Diploma program in Medical Assisting. The Diploma program is designed to be completed in 55 weeks, and the Associate of Science program takes 88 weeks to complete.
The Medical Assistant program trains students in examining room procedures, obtaining vital signs, performing routine laboratory procedures, and sterilizing and maintaining equipment.
Students will also get real-world experience by completing an externship in a physician’s office, clinic, or healthcare facility. They will work under the supervision of a physician, nurse, or health services professional.
Although this program covers a broader spectrum than just phlebotomy, training in venipuncture is included.
