Virginia College in Mobile offers both an Associate of Science and Diploma program in Medical Assisting. The Diploma program is designed to be completed in 55 weeks, and the Associate of Science program takes 88 weeks to complete.
The Medical Assistant training focuses on a broad spectrum of skills, including examining room procedures, and equipment sterilization and maintenance. Students will also complete a 180 hour externship at a local health facility in Mobile.
Students will get hands-on training to build their skills and confidence. They will practice clinical procedures, including injections and blood draws, on training apparatus prior to practicing on human subjects.
They will get to further their experience through the externship in an applied clinical setting. Not only does the externship provide real-world experience, but it also gives students exposure to potential employers after graduation.
