Virginia College in Montgomery offers a Medical Assistant Diploma program that is designed to be completed in 55 weeks.
The Medical Assistant Diploma program requires 60 quarter credit hours. Students are also required to complete an externship in a physician’s office, clinic, or other healthcare facility under the supervision of a physician, nurse, or other health services professional.
The program will prepare students to seek employment as a multi-skilled medical assistant. Training is provided in clinical techniques such as examining room procedures, obtaining vital signs, sterilizing equipment, routine laboratory procedures.
The program covers a broader curriculum than just phlebotomy, but training in venipuncture is included.
