Certification Requirements
The state of Alaska does not require certification to practice phlebotomy, but it will put you first in line for the best jobs. Employers favor those candidates who are certified, so finding a quality training program that prepares you for certification will give you quite an advantage when it comes to finding jobs.
In Alaska, phlebotomists can find jobs in medical laboratories in hospitals, clinics, public health facilities, nursing homes, and associated healthcare industries. In rural Alaska, you can expect to find jobs in hospitals, physician’s offices, sub-regional clinics, and other medical laboratory environments.
Education requirements vary, but at a minimum you should have a high school diploma or GED and adequate phlebotomy training or work experience.
The average hourly wage for a phlebotomist or phlebotomy technician in Alaska is $12.50 – $29.09. The mean hourly wage is $18.90. Those numbers are based on the Alaska Department of Labor (DOL) for Healthcare Support Worker.
